The President of the Kimberley Golf Club believes an international boarding school planned in Marysville is the golf course’s future.
Ron Christensen was among the crowd of Kimberley residents who took part in a public hearing at City Hall last night.
Christensen says the majority of the golf club’s members support the proposed educational facility’s proposal to build on the golf course’s land.
“To keep us going, we need an infusion. We used to have a huge membership and membership is dwindling, there’s just too many golf courses,” Christensen says. “We need to be rejuvenated, we don’t have the money to do that. We need to improve our infrastructure and this is the only way we see of getting it done.”
He feels building the school on Holes 6-9 could breathe new life into the club.
“It’ll give us something new to market and something new for our members to play on,” Christensen says. “The business model is excellent and I really believe they want to do things in the best interest of the people of Kimberley and themselves, because they live here.”
Other Kimberley residents voiced concerns with the project and its potential impact on traffic and wildlife corridors.
City Council approved changing the official community plan to allow planning for the project to move forward.
